Before you leave the interview, remember to ask:
-----What is the next step in the process?------
This will tell you where THEY are in the process and help you to plan your job hunting strategy as well.
If they are at the beginning of the process, they may tell you that they are still doing first-round interviews, and it will be up to two to three weeks before they get back with people to schedule seconds.
They may be at the END of that process and be calling people back next week.
You may have met several people and your primary interviewer will want to gather feedback, and thus be calling you back in the next day or two.
You can see the variance! In any case, knowing what is taking place on their side, helps you to know what you want to do, especially if you like the company and want the job.
Asking if you may call them if you don`t hear from them is entirely appropriate.
THIS IS A TWO-WAY STREET and there is NOTHING that requires you to be passive about it. Ask what you need to ask to learn what you need to know!
