February 20, 2004, Newsletter Issue #5: MULTIPLE INTERVIEWS (Part 1 of 2 parts)

Tip of the Week

One might expect multiple interviews to be a breeze. If they didn’t like you, they wouldn’t invite you back, right? Well, usually, but not always! More than you’d expect it to happen, three interviews can result in a company jettisoning a candidate quite thoroughly, instead of extending the expected offer.

Sometimes being invited back to meet others is not to share the joy, but to get another opinion, clear up doubt or concern. Sometimes the candidate simply just blows it in the home stretch.

Typically multiple interviews involve meeting multiple people. The more authority involved in the position for which you are interviewing or the higher up the corporate ladder that position is, the more people you are likely to have to meet with and the longer the process will be.

There are several challenges in this process. The primary one is that each person interviewing you has a different agenda.
