Expert Guru
I am a modern Renaissance man of many trades. I grew up in Canada and came to the United States to play college football. I have lived many places but have no settled in the Midwest. I have spent my adult life working in sales, training, public speaking and management. I have worked with at-risk youth, as a police officer, as a leadership facilitator, with insurance companies and now in technology. I have found success in every field I have pursued and been recognized in many of them. I have had my share of ups and downs in every other area of life, but have always overcome. I am currently employed in management with a Fortune 500 company and I have quickly started to make my mark and catch the eyes of my superiors. I hold several certificates and have been trained in several fields to the level of a certified trainer.
My goal is to pass on simple tips to those looking for help with their careers.
Interview
What books have most influenced your life? The Skilled Facilitator: Practical Wisdom for Developing Effective Groups by Roger M. Schwarz 5 Pillars Of Leadership: How to Bridge the Leadership Gap by Paul J Meyer and Randy Slechta The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren Cops Don’t Cry by Vali Stone 101 Ways to Make Training Active by Mel Silberman There’s Treasure Everywhere: A Calvin and Hobbes Collection by Bill Watterson
Who are your favorite music artists? I love artists in every genre of music. Music interacts with mood by reaffirming it or even creating it, so it is less about the artist for me and more about the music. I love Trans Siberian Orchestra, Counting Crows, Better than Ezra, Nelly, Korn, Mercy Me, Eminem and Pink Floyd.
What are your favorite websites and why? I am addicted to Facebook for a social site, MSN.com for news, and Google to search from. Of course, I love LifeTips too!
Where else can people find you on the web? You will find me on Facebook, Myspace, EHow, and many others.
What are your professional highlights? Trainer for First Aid and CPR, for Leadership, Paramedical Insurance Requirements, and Law Enforcement. Top Cadet Academically and Overall for MWRLEA. Employee of the month 5 times on three jobs. Promoted within first 6 months on 4 different jobs. Youngest Professional Offensive Coach, NAIFL - 2002 (Age 27). Top Sales Associate in a month on two sales jobs by second month of employment.
What advice do you have for the journey of life? When we fail to obey the limits of the very thing we fight for, to practice what we preach, or to live the truth we are trying to spread; we then are forcing our own egos onto others.
What are you most passionate about in life? I am most passionate about my family. I care about my brothers, my parents, my fiancé, her son, and of course the apple of my eye, my son.
What ticks you off? Right now, I get frustrated by politics. Not politics just as in voting, but the idea of politics and the exploitation it causes people to do. I have always been frustrated by bullies, liars and ignorance, but somehow the politics of work, life and our government bring this out in people quicker than anything else.
Any thoughts or ideas on living a greener life? It is necessary for all people to take responsibility for all we do now and the effect it has on ours and other peoples future. If living green is going to help save our planet for my son and his kids to live forever, it is worth doing and doing it right.
What would people be surprised to know about you? People that know are not surprised by anything, but that is because they have learned that everything you get to know about me might surprise you. I don't always match stereo types, my opinion changes through personal growth and I am always willing to stand behind what I say or do.
Philosophy
I have watched so many others fail where it is so easy to succeed simply because they did not understand what it takes to do just that: succeed. I believe in “leadership” over “management” and “collaboration” over “cooperation”. Success is not inherited through entitlement, but rather earned through working intelligently hard.

How to Get Noticed for Advancement
There is no one way or quick fix method to get noticed when a promotion or raise opportunity comes your way. Preparation for a advancement begins at day one. Here are some things that will get you noticed with your bosses. • Know the job you are doing. Take some personal time off the clock to research things for your job and complete all trainings no matter how tedious. • Take ownership of your job: take responsibility and be an active member of your team. Be subtly enthusiastic with change when it occurs, even if you are dreading it. • Develop professional relationships. No one expects you to like or make friends at work. But it will benefit you to be courteous, friendly and professional to all co-workers and business associates. • Don’t complain. There are those that gripe about everything that goes on then there are those that are part of the solution. You might not like what is going on, but be part of the solution, not the problem. • Show your leadership abilities. A leader is not always vocal, but they are not always quiet either. Lead by example and pick the right time and place to say what needs to be said, when it needs to be said. It does not matter if you are a welder, government employee, first line supervisor or if you are trying to roll up the corporate ladder. Trying to “turn it on” after the possibility is presented almost never works. While there are exceptions, being true to the job and working hard almost always results in a promotion or a raise faster.
